eMandate is a digital NACH (National Automated Clearing House) instruction that authorises recurring automatic debit from a bank account for SIP instalments — replacing paper mandate forms.
eMandate is an electronic version of the bank mandate, registered through NPCI's NACH system. It allows mutual fund AMCs and platforms to automatically debit an investor's bank account on SIP dates without requiring manual payment each month. Registration is done through Net Banking or Aadhaar OTP authentication. Once registered, the eMandate is valid indefinitely (or until the specified end date) and deducts the SIP amount automatically each month.
eMandate is the digital standing instruction that makes SIPs truly automatic. When you set up a SIP on Zerodha, Groww, or any platform, they ask you to register an eMandate — essentially you're telling your bank: 'Allow this fund house to debit ₹5,000 from my account on the 5th of every month.' Once registered, the SIP runs without you doing anything. No UPI pin, no bank login, no remembering to pay — it's fully automatic.
Register via Net Banking (most common) or Aadhaar OTP on the investment platform.
NPCI NACH processes the registration and validates with the bank.
On each SIP date, the fund house triggers the debit automatically.
Registration typically takes 15–30 days for the first SIP; subsequent deductions are automatic.
For the first SIP instalment (while eMandate is being processed), most platforms use UPI one-time payment.
