CKYC (Central KYC) is a government initiative to create a centralised KYC registry across all financial sectors — complete KYC once, use it for banks, insurance, and mutual funds.
CKYC was established by the Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India (CERSAI) under the Finance Ministry. When you complete KYC with any financial institution, a 14-digit CKYC number is generated. This CKYC number can be used to complete KYC with other financial institutions — eliminating the need for re-submission of documents. Mutual fund KYC and CKYC are being progressively integrated, though the systems are separate today (SEBI KRAs vs CERSAI CKYC registry).
CKYC is the government's vision of 'KYC once, use everywhere.' Instead of submitting your PAN, Aadhaar, and documents separately to your bank, insurance company, and fund house — CKYC creates a central record. Your 14-digit CKYC number links to this record. You give the number to new financial institutions instead of re-submitting documents. The full integration across all sectors is ongoing.
CKYC is created when you submit KYC documents to a registered financial institution.
You receive a 14-digit CKYC number.
This number can be cited in subsequent KYC submissions to other institutions.
The recipient institution verifies your CKYC record with CERSAI instead of physically verifying documents.
