Scheme Information Document (SID) is the official, legally binding document for every mutual fund scheme — it contains the complete investment objective, strategy, risks, charges, and redemption details.
The SID is the primary legal document for a mutual fund scheme. SEBI mandates every AMC to publish and maintain an SID for each scheme, kept updated. It contains: investment objective, asset allocation, investment strategy, benchmark, risk factors, fund manager details, expense ratio, exit load schedule, investor rights, and redemption process. Reading the SID before investing is the single most important due diligence step — if what you expect from the fund doesn't match the SID, don't invest.
The SID is the fund's constitution — the full rulebook. It says: 'This fund will invest in these kinds of stocks, follow this strategy, charge this much, and can be redeemed like this.' Most investors never read it, but it's the authoritative source for every question about how a fund works. Available free on the AMC's website for every scheme.
Available on the AMC's website and SEBI's SCORES database.
Updated when fund details change — SEBI requires notification and updated SID.
Key sections: Investment Objective (what it invests in), Benchmark (target index), Asset Allocation Table, Risk Factors, Expense Ratio, Exit Load, Redemption Process.
